Mark Tapper is President of Tapper’s Fine Jewelry. In 1977, Mark’s father, Howard founded Tapper’s. At just 12 years old, Mark was stocking shelves and doing basic watch repair. He recently took the reins of his family’s business at the age of 30 and is leading the growth strategy for Tapper’s Diamonds & Fine Jewelry.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Master of Arts in International Economics and Finance from Brandeis University. Mark spent two years as a special education teacher for Teach for America in the South Bronx area of New York City and additional time as an education consultant in New York, while earning a Master of Science in Education from Lehman College.
Mark then became a Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America. From there, he headed to Harvard University, where he earned his Master of Business Administration. Mark also worked on the management team for the build-out and opening of the Louis Vuitton store at City Center in Las Vegas to gain luxury retail experience outside the jewelry category.
He returned to Michigan in 2010 and launched Tapper’s Gold Exchange. Since then Mark has been leading the growth and expansion of Tapper’s business and commitment to enhancing the level of service they provide their clients and their team. He has been recognized as one of Crain’s Detroit 40 Under 40 and one of DBusiness’ 30 in Their Thirties.
Mark recently joined the Board of the Futures Foundation as part of his ongoing commitment to support the Detroit community.
